Screama (born May 9th 1988) is professionally known as Screama and Simplex, Record producer, DJ, songwriter and sound engineer.

Biography

Screama was born in Birmingham England and grew up in the Winson Green area of the city. Screama is the youngest of three having an older brother and sister and was raised by his mother. He grew up without his father and explains not having his father around made him more determined to be a success. Additionally, avoiding the paths that under-privileged youths and peers more commonly followed, Screama found salvation through his interest and biggest passion – Music. Sreama’s passion for music was founded through watching popular music television programmes like Yo MTV Raps and the Soul of MTV, which spurned his interests in other music genres including Reggae, Indie, Neo-soul, Drum & Bass and Garage. Inspiration came in many forms for Screama, who describes 90’s hip-hop, RnB and soul as his biggest inspiration to date but was also heavily influenced by artists Tupac and Notorious B.I.G who emerged as iconic artists of that generation. Aged 13, Screama begun to get creative both lyrically and musically. It started in the school playground, ‘messing about’ Screama’s freestyle skills earned him credible feedback from peers which prompted a can-do attitude to be successful within the music industry. By 14 years old, a computer console game ironically entitled ‘music generator’ further fuelled Screama’s determination to make it; he started to write songs, make beats and produce hip-hop, soul and drum and bass music.

And so it began

Focused solely on music, Screama and his friends formed a group called ‘No remorse / E.N.T./1418’ made up of producers and MC’s who were determined to be heard. The group produced music on decks making music for tape and it was only a matter of time that performing as a group was the next step forward. The group went on to showcase their material at school, house parties and youth clubs, and an outlet for DJ’s and MC’s called the ‘Oxygen Rooms’ was where the group often went to perfect their routines.

A star is born

Screama acted as Producer, MC and Sound Engineer in the group but it gradually became clear that the multi-talented Simplex was always destined to breakthrough as a solo artist. He begun producing tracks for various artists within the music industry and doors started to open which saw Simplex’s talent recognition crossover from the underground music scene into the mainstream. Following the success received from the countless tracks he has written and produced, including Best Thing & Let me know ft Teresa which featured on the Ministry of Sound Bassline compilation album (March 2008). A few tracks were later released on vinyl (April 2008) including Bone, Tekken, Gangsta and To the Dancefloor with his hugely anticipated album entitled: Complex Simplicity due to be released soon. Simplex has performed all over the UK at various events, gigs and club nights around the country, including an appearance on Phatbeats.net (April 2008), the UK flow show in London and at Great Yarmouth which was a huge success. Subsequent to his performance at these events Simplex gained fans both in Japan and France and became internationally known with sudden interest from Swiss DJ’s contacting him for exclusive tracks.

More to ‘Screama’ than just music

Screama’s musical accomplishments have virtually brandished him an industry heavyweight since becoming an established artist within a few years, and his status was further cemented when he was selected to become the face and voice of Wolverhampton University, where he is studying a degree in music. He also added actor to his talent CV after successfully completing an acting course during 2008 and has since gone on to appear in numerous acting projects and a theatrical play entitled Beaten tracks, Peaceful paths in August 2008. Simplex has embraced his entrepreneurial skills by merchandising and selling his branded T-shirt ‘Complex Simplicity’ (Mar 2008). He has also recently been signed to PRS – the UK’s largest publishing company with further interest and approaches from other publishing companies. In spite of his success to date, Simplex remains a humble artist and individual.

Putting his best foot forward

Persistence and consistence have definitely paid off and things can only get better for the self made successful artist who has secured his name in the music industry and is also a fitting choice to be an upstanding spokesperson and role model for young people. Now aged 22, Simplex has already achieved what usually takes most people a lifetime to accomplish thus reinforcing his staying power and full potential as an artist.

With the whole world in his hands the future isn’t just bright, the future is Simplex.
